FAQs about making stains disappear with teeth whitening that actually works!
No one wants to have yellow, stained teeth. Brighton Park Dental helps our neighbors from across southwest Chicago, Illinois, lighten their teeth and remove stains when store-bought whitening toothpastes, kits, and other products do not work as marketed.
Why don’t whitening toothpastes, kits, etc., work?
In general, the products that you get at the store or buy online are not as powerful as the products available at the dentist’s office. Since the active ingredients in the whitening gels or pastes are not as concentrated, you may end up with disappointing results. You may notice little, if any, change in the color of your teeth. Additionally, products may not be formulated with the right ingredients in the first place.
What ingredients do dentists use?
Dentists like our own Drs. Aroon Pal, Nilay Patel, and Taylor Jemilo generally use concentrated peroxide-based gels. These whitening gels have undergone rigorous testing and have been scientifically proven to remove stains and lighten teeth. They are also considered to be safe products. The fact that these treatments are customized to your needs and are monitored by dental professionals also helps to support your safety, comfort, and results.
Does treatment hurt?
Traditionally, the biggest concern associated with powerful whitening gels has been tooth sensitivity; however, we can minimize potential sensitivity by tailoring treatment exactly to your needs. We can customize how long the gel or active whiteners are in contact with your teeth. We can also tailor the concentration of the whitening gel to your needs, if you are concerned about tooth sensitivity or have a history of such discomfort. Many of today’s advanced whitening systems are also formulated with special ingredients and products that are designed to protect against tooth sensitivity.
How much can you whiten my teeth?
Since treatment is customized to you, your needs, goals, and preferences, this can vary. Everyone has a different starting point and different goals for treatment. In general, though, due to the concentrated nature of the clinically proven ingredients that we use, you can lighten your teeth by several shades.
Is professional teeth whitening permanent?
Stains can continue to form and build up on the teeth. One of the best things that you can do for the appearance of your smile and the health of your mouth as a whole is to maintain routine checkups at our Brighton Park Dental office. During your visit, one of our hygienists will clean your teeth. They use special tools and techniques to remove surface stains, and this helps to keep your post-treatment teeth brilliantly white. We can also provide recommendations for ways to maintain the results from treatment, as what you eat, drink, and other habits can either help or harm your long-term outcomes. As needed, “touch-ups” can restore the radiant color of your teeth when they start to look a little stained.
